Ukrainian metallurgical enterprises produced 277,000 tons of steel in August 2026, which is 2.3 times less than in August last year, when the production volume was 649,000 tons, reports Open4Business.
Compared to July this year, when 457,000 tons of steel were produced, the August figure decreased by another 39.4%.
Against the background of a sharp drop production volumes, Ukraine fell to 33rd place among 70 steel-producing countries, data on which is collected by the World Steel Association of Steel Producers.
Back in July 2026, Ukraine was in 26th place, and in August 2025 - in 21st position.
Thus, in just one year, the country lost 12 positions in the monthly global rating.
At the same time, the results for eight months look better than those of August. In January-August 2026, Ukraine produced 4.30 million tons of steel, which is 12.5% less than 4.91 million tons in the same period last year.
Ukraine ranks 24th in the world in terms of accumulated production volume in eight months.
For comparison: in 2025 alone, Ukraine produced 7.41 million tons of steel, which is 2.2% less. than in 2024, and took 21st place among world producers.
Thus, August became one of the weakest months for Ukrainian metallurgy in 2026: production was 40% lower than the July level and more than twice lower than last year.
The decline in Ukraine is much faster than in the world as a whole: in August, global steel production decreased by only 1.2%, to 144.2 million tons, and for January-August — by 0.7%, to 1.225 billion tons.
