Banks of Ukraine received UAH 54 billion in net profit for the first half of 2026

According to the results of the first half of 2026, Ukrainian banks received UAH 54.07 billion in net profit, while their pre-tax profit reached UAH 108.57 billion, according to Opendatabot calculations based on data from the National Bank of Ukraine. The material was made public on August 19, 2026.

Banks' expenses on income tax amounted to UAH 54.5 billion, that is, they exceeded half of the financial result obtained before taxation. During the same period last year, banks charged UAH 21.99 billion in tax.

In its review of the results of solvent banks, the National Bank also reported that the net profit of the sector in the first half of the year amounted to about UAH 54 billion and was 32% less in annual terms. One of the main reasons was the application of an increased bank profit tax rate of 50% in 2026.
At the same time, the operating profitability of the banking sector remains high. According to the NBU, the profit of solvent banks before taxation in the first half of the year increased by 6.5% compared to the corresponding period of 2025.

In 2025, banks paid income tax at the base rate for the sector of 25%, but in 2026 the rate was again increased to 50%. The NBU has repeatedly warned that increased taxation reduces the ability of banks to increase capital and lend to the economy.
