Egypt has the highest balance of positive attitude of Ukrainians among North African countries - study

Egypt has the highest indicators of a positive attitude of Ukrainians among the North African countries represented in the study: 28.2% of respondents have a positive attitude towards it, and the balance of positive and negative assessments is 21.4 percentage points. At the same time, the perception of all four countries of the region is dominated by neutral assessments — their share is from 59.3% to 67.3%. This is evidenced by the results of the third wave of the study "Attitudes of Ukrainians to the countries of the world", conducted by Active Group together with Experts Club, reports the information and analytical center Experts Club.

Egypt is viewed positively 28.2% of surveyed Ukrainians, 61.3% neutral, 6.8% negative, another 3.7% could not decide. The balance of positive and negative assessments in August 2026 was 21.4 percentage points. against 28.7 percent in March and 19 in August 2025. Thus, after the spring increase, the indicator decreased, but remains somewhat higher than a year ago.

A neutral attitude prevails regarding Tunisia - this was the answer of 67.3% of respondents. 17.8% evaluate the country positively, 6.8% negatively, another 8% are undecided. The balance is plus 11 percentage points, which puts Tunisia in second place among the represented North African states.

In Libya, positive and negative evaluations are almost equal: 16.6% of respondents have a positive attitude towards the country, 15.7% are negative, and 59.3% are neutral. Accordingly, the balance is only plus 0.9 percentage points.

For Algeria, the share of positive assessments is 14.3%, negative - 12.1%, neutral - 65.8%, another 7.8% of respondents are undecided. The balance is equal to plus 2.2 percentage points. In March 2026, it was only plus 0.2 percentage points, and in August 2025 - plus 5.7 percentage points.

Thus, none of the represented North African states has a negative balance of attitudes, but the high level of neutral responses indicates a much less formed attitude of Ukrainians towards these countries compared, for example, to European states. At the same time, Egypt and Algeria are also of economic importance for Ukraine: according to the data presented at the press conference, in the first half of 2026, the positive trade balance of Ukraine with Egypt amounted to $527.1 million, and with Algeria - $309.2 million.

The founder of the Experts Club information and analytical center, deputy director of Interfax-Ukraine IA, Candidate of Economic Sciences Maksym Urakin emphasized the need for more active communication of partner states with the Ukrainian audience.

"The first recommendation is to regularly show specific cases, specific actions, the presence here of foundations, embassies, teams, diplomats in the humanitarian sphere, in science. The second is to be open to questions and requests from the mass media and the public," Urakin said. According to him, it is also advisable to use the results of sociology to strengthen bilateral, primarily trade, relations.

The survey was conducted in August 2026 by the method of self-completion of online questionnaires in the SunFlowerSociology panel among 800 citizens of Ukraine aged 18 and over. According to the organizers, the sample is representative by age, gender and region, the maximum theoretical error is ±3.5 percentage points. This is the third wave of the survey after the surveys of August 2025 and March 2026.
