In the rating of the most valuable passports in the world, Ukraine was in 73rd place

Ukraine took 73rd place in the Nomad Passport Index 2026 — a ranking of the most valuable citizenships in the world compiled by Nomad Capitalist. Ukrainian citizenship received 85 points and shared this position with Tuvalu and El Salvador.

According to the rating, the Ukrainian passport has a high indicator of freedom of movement — 146 points in the travel category. This reflects fairly wide visa-free and simplified access for Ukrainians to other countries, including the European space. However, Ukraine's final position is reduced due to other parameters taken into account by the Nomad Passport Index.

Ukraine received 20 points for the tax criterion, 40 points for international perception, 30 points for the possibility of dual citizenship, and 10 points for personal freedoms. It was the low score in the category of personal freedom that became one of the factors that limited the final result of the country in the rating.

This result shows the difference between the "power of the passport" in the narrow sense and the "value of citizenship" in the broader methodology. If only mobility is evaluated, the Ukrainian passport looks noticeably stronger than Ukraine's place in the overall ranking of Nomad Capitalist. But if we take into account taxes, freedoms, reputation and flexibility of citizenship, the final position becomes lower.

In the European context, Ukraine is lower than most EU countries and a number of Western Balkan states. For comparison, Serbia took 71st place, North Macedonia - 78th, Montenegro - 82nd, Bosnia and Herzegovina - 87th, Albania - 91st, Moldova - 87th. At the same time, Ukraine is ahead of a number of post-Soviet countries and states with more limited international mobility. In the ranking, Russia took 96th place, Belarus - 123rd, Kazakhstan - 114th, Armenia - 120th, Azerbaijan - 131st.

For Ukraine, the ranking is important primarily as an indicator that international mobility is already a strong point of Ukrainian citizenship, but the overall "value of the passport" will depend on broader factors - the quality of institutions, the legal regime, security, the perception of the country and future integration into the EU.

After the end of the war and advancement on the European path, Ukraine can improve its position in similar ratings, especially if the legal institutions, protection of freedoms, investment climate and international reputation of the country will be strengthened.
