Lviv region is preparing to sign an agreement on the development of a feasibility study for the construction of the European standard railway line Warsaw - Rava-Ruska - Bryukhovychy - Lviv.
As reported by "Interfax-Ukraine", said the head of the Lviv Regional Military Administration Maksym Kozytskyi during the forum "Regional Dialogues with Businesses on European Integration" in Lviv on September 24.
According to him, the new line should ensure a railway connection between Lviv and Warsaw by a track of the European standard. Variants of its arrival either at the main railway station of Lviv or at the Sknylivskyi station are being considered. This feasibility study will be handed over to the railway, made according to their technical task, with a narrow gauge connecting Lviv and Warsaw," Kozytskyi said.
Financing of the feasibility study is planned to be carried out at the expense of regional and local budgets.
Separately, the head of the Lviv OVA called the extension of the European track to Uzhgorod promising. In his opinion, this could partially relieve traffic checkpoints on the western border and create additional opportunities for the development of the Carpathian region.
Among other railway projects, Kozytskyi mentioned the already built line Nyzhankovichi - Khyriv - Smilnytsia. According to him, the Ukrainian side has completed the necessary work, and the further launch of the route depends on agreements with the Polish side.
He also drew attention to the need to expand certain sections of the highway Kyiv - Chop. The development of railway and road infrastructure, according to Kozytskyi, should strengthen the role of the Lviv region as one of the key logistics hubs of Ukraine.
The Warsaw-Lviv eurotrack project is of particular importance for the integration of the Ukrainian transport system into the European network, since the standard width of the railway track in most EU countries is 1435 mm, while in Ukraine traditionally a track of 1520 mm is used.
