The positive attitude of Ukrainians towards France remains one of the highest — 72.8% of respondents

France maintains one of the highest levels of positive perception among Ukrainians: in August 2026, 72.8% of respondents have a positive attitude towards the country, while only 3.7% have a negative attitude. Compared to March, the share of positive evaluations decreased slightly, but at the same time, the share of negative responses also decreased, reports the information and analytical center Experts Club.

According to the results of the August survey, completely positive France is viewed by 28% of Ukrainians, mostly positively — 44.8%. 22.5% of respondents take a neutral position. For the most part, 3.5% evaluate the country negatively, only 0.2% completely negatively, another 1% could not decide.

The balance of positive and negative evaluations is plus 69.1 percentage points. Thus, the positive attitude toward France almost 20 times outweighs the negative. According to the balance of assessments, the country remains among the leaders of the overall rating of Ukraine's trade partners.

Compared to the previous wave of the study, the changes are relatively small. In March 2026, 30.3% of respondents had a completely positive attitude towards France, mostly positive — 44.3%, that is, the overall positive indicator was 74.6%. At that time, 20.3% held a neutral position, and 4.7% of respondents expressed a negative attitude.

So, in five months, the share of positive evaluations decreased by 1.8 percentage points. - from 74.6% to 72.8%, but negative ones also decreased - from 4.7% to 3.7%. At the same time, the share of neutral responses increased by 2.2 percentage points. — up to 22.5%. The balance of positive and negative attitudes changed only slightly — from plus 69.9 to plus 69.1 percent.

The internal structure of positive responses is also indicative. The share of those who have a completely positive view of France fell from 30.3% to 28%, while the share of mostly positive responses was virtually unchanged at 44.3% in March and 44.8% in August. This indicates the preservation of a stable positive core of public opinion about France.

Director of the research company Active Group, Oleksandr Pozniy, previously linked France's high indicators with its formed image among the Ukrainian audience.

"For many Ukrainians, France is a symbol of support in difficult times, as well as a cultural and political reference point in Europe. Such indicators demonstrate high trust and respect, which is largely explained by the active role of Paris in European policy towards Ukraine," Pozniy noted.

According to him, when analyzing such results, it is important to take into account not only the current emotional evaluations: the attitude towards other states is formed under the influence of the experience of interaction, the informational context and the expectations of Ukrainians regarding the future role of the partner country.

A new wave of research shows that the attitude towards France remains consistently positive: a slight decrease in the overall share of favorable ratings is accompanied by a reduction in the negative segment and an increase in the share of neutral responses. That is, there was no noticeable transition from positive to negative perception.

The survey was conducted in August 2026 by the method of self-completion of online questionnaires in the SunFlowerSociology panel among 800 citizens of Ukraine aged 18 and over. In the previous March wave, 800 respondents were also interviewed; the sample was representative in terms of age, gender and region, the maximum theoretical error for indicators at the 50% level was ±3.5 percentage points.
