As reported by Open4Business, Ukrainian farmers completed the wheat harvest with 26.26 million tonnes from 5.12 million hectares, up 15.3% from 2025, Ukraine’s Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food said on 3 November.

The average wheat yield rose by 13.7% in 2026 to 51.3 centners per hectare, from 45.1 a year earlier. The harvested area increased by just 1.4%, or around 70,700 hectares, so higher yields accounted for most of the increase in production.

The barley harvest also rose. Output reached 6.60 million tonnes from 1.48 million hectares, around 22.8% above the level recorded at the end of October last year. The average yield rose from 39.7 to 44.5 centners per hectare and the area under cultivation increased by about 9.8%.

Farmers also completed the pea harvest. The ministry reported 834,100 tonnes from 302,200 hectares, with an average yield of 27.6 centners per hectare. Output was up 26.2% from 2025 and the yield rose by about 13%.

The combined harvest of the three main early grain and pulse crops — wheat, barley and peas — was about 33.69 million tonnes.

Higher yields help supply Ukraine’s domestic food market, flour mills and feed producers, while also supporting exports.

Wheat remains Ukraine’s largest grain crop by volume harvested so far in 2026, although the ongoing maize harvest could change that ranking.
