As reported Open4Business, as of 3 November 2026 Ukrainian agrarians harvested 60.6 thousand tonnes of buckwheat, which is 26.5% less than the corresponding operational indicator at the end of October 2025. Meanwhile, the gross harvest of millet increased by 46.2%, to 89.9 thousand tonnes, the Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine reported.
According to the ministry, buckwheat has been threshed on an area of 46.6 thousand hectares, or 95.9% of the forecasted area. The average yield is 13.0 centners per hectare.
For comparison, as of 31 October 2025 Ukrainian agrarians threshed 82.5 thousand tonnes of buckwheat.
Thus, the current volume of crop production is approximately 21.9 thousand tonnes less.
Millet harvesting in 2026 was carried out on an area of 38.8 thousand hectares, which is 94.9% of the forecasted area. The average yield reached 23.2 centners per hectare.
In total, 89.9 thousand tonnes of millet have been threshed against 61.5 thousand tonnes according to operational data as of 31 October 2025.
Thus, millet production exceeds the previous year's indicator by 28.4 thousand tonnes.
Buckwheat and millet are among the main grain crops used for the production of food products in the domestic market of Ukraine.
Buckwheat is the raw material for the production of buckwheat groats, while millet is mainly used for the production of semolina, as well as in the feed industry.
A reduction in the buckwheat harvest may affect the balance of raw material supply for grain enterprises, however the actual situation in the market will also depend on carryover stocks, imports and consumer demand.
Meanwhile, the increase in millet production creates conditions for increasing its supply in the domestic market.
According to the ministry, the harvesting campaign of both crops is nearing completion, so further changes in the gross harvest are expected to be relatively small.
