In January-August 2026, Ukraine increased imports of transformers, inductors, and chokes by 49% compared to the same period last year — to $1.02 billion, while China provided almost 88% of all supplies of these products, according to the State Customs Service.
For eight months, $890 worth of transformers, inductors, and chokes were imported from China to Ukraine million, which is 87.7% of the total volume of imports of this product group.
A year earlier, deliveries from China amounted to $563.4 million, or 82.7% of Ukrainian imports. Thus, during the year, China not only significantly increased the volume of supplies, but also increased its share in the Ukrainian market by approximately 5 percentage points.
Turkey and Germany remained the other major suppliers. Turkey accounted for about 3% of imports, while a year earlier its share was 2.5%. Germany's share, on the contrary, decreased from 5.8% to 1.4%.
The growth rate of transformer equipment imports during 2026 is gradually slowing down. According to the results of the first quarter, imports increased by 81% in annual terms, during the first half of the year - by 63%, and according to the results of January-August, the growth was already 49%.
In August 2026, Ukraine imported transformers, inductors and chokes in the amount of 115.7 million dollars, which is 7.7% more than in August last year.
High volume of purchases transformer equipment is kept against the background of the need to restore and modernize the Ukrainian energy infrastructure.
In March 2026, the Cabinet of Ministers excluded transformers from the list of goods that could be imported on preferential terms within the framework of agreements with the EU Secretariat. In May, the European Business Association appealed to the First Vice-Prime Minister - Minister of Energy of Ukraine Denys Shmyhal with a proposal to temporarily exempt certain types of power transformers from import duties and VAT.
At the same time, Ukraine maintains its own export of transformers and related electrical equipment. In January-August 2026, its volume amounted to almost $24.8 million against $19.9 million a year earlier. Germany, Poland and Hungary became the main sales markets.
For comparison: in 2025 alone, Ukraine imported transformers, inductors and chokes worth $1.12 billion, which was 88% more than in 2024. Deliveries from China then increased 2.3 times — to $957.3 million.
Thus, already in eight months of 2026, the volume of Ukrainian imports of these products approached the figure for the entire previous year, and China even more firmly established its status as a key supplier of transformer equipment for the Ukrainian market.
