Odesa region harvests 3.83 million tonnes of wheat and 1.5 million tonnes of barley

As reported by Open4Business, Odesa Oblast ranks first in Ukraine for gross grain and legume harvest in 2026. As of 27 October, farmers in the region have harvested 5.83 million tonnes of grain from an area of 1.26 million hectares, according to data from the Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine.

The bulk of the region's harvest was wheat, with 3.83 million tonnes milled.

In addition, Odesa Oblast harvested 1.50 million tonnes of barley and around 300 thousand tonnes of peas.

Thus, the region accounts for approximately 14% of Ukraine's total gross grain and legume harvest, which reached 41.7 million tonnes.

Dnipropetrovsk Oblast holds the second place, having harvested 2.91 million tonnes of grain from an area of 740 thousand hectares.

In particular, the wheat harvest in the region reached 2.04 million tonnes, barley — 570 thousand tonnes, peas — 37 thousand tonnes.

The top three is completed by Mykolaiv Oblast with an indicator of 2.78 million tonnes of grains and legumes harvested from an area of around 700 thousand hectares.

In Mykolaiv Oblast, 1.87 million tonnes of wheat, 650 thousand tonnes of barley and 118 thousand tonnes of peas have been harvested.

In total, the three oblasts provided 11.52 million tonnes of grain, or approximately 27.6% of the national gross harvest as of the reporting date.

At the same time, the ranking of regions by yield significantly differs from the distribution by production volumes.

The highest average yield of cereal crops in 2026 was recorded in Sumy Oblast — 69.8 centners per hectare.

In second place is Khmelnytskyi Oblast with a figure of 69 centners per hectare.

The top five most productive regions also included Chernivtsi Oblast with a figure of 64 centners per hectare, Vinnytsia — 63 centners per hectare and Chernihiv — 61.4 centners per hectare.

For comparison, the average yield of cereal and legume crops in Ukraine as of 27 October was 50.2 centners per hectare.

Thus, the figure for Sumy Oblast exceeds the national average by approximately 39%, and that for Khmelnytskyi by 37%.

The differences between regions are linked, in particular, to the structure of sowing, natural and climatic conditions, and the yield of individual agricultural crops. However, the published statistics alone do not allow for a quantitative assessment of the contribution of each of these factors.

According to the ministry's data, wheat, barley, and pea harvesting in Ukraine has been fully completed, while corn harvesting is ongoing.

Therefore, regional indicators of total grain production may still change after the completion of late crop harvesting.
